Xavi ‘has set a new rule’ in Barcelona’s locker room, reports Mundo Deportivo’s Gabriel Sans.
According to it, no one can question Xavi’s technical decisions. For example, Jules Kounde will play at right-back for as long as Xavi wants to; Frenkie de Jong will be the defensive midfielder as long as it’s the best option.
This also applies to the Barca veterans. If Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba or Sergio Busquets are benched, they have to accept it.
On the one hand, this rule makes sense since Xavi is the head coach and knows what’s better for the team. On the other, this could lead to conflicts in the long term. Kounde, for instance, keeps telling the media that he feels way more comfortable at centre-back than at right-back. Pique, in turn, is eager to finally get more game time than he had at the beginning of the season.
Moreover, experienced players’ recommendations often win games. What if Xavi won’t listen to them at all now?
