Volkano and one more reason why Lewandowski didn’t sign for two second division teams

In 2010, Robert Lewandowski was close to signing for Real Zaragoza, per Marca.

However, the prolific striker was convinced by Jurgen Klopp to join Borussia Dortmund instead in a €4.75m deal.

Another team that really interested Lewandowski back in 2010 was Blackburn Rovers in England.

Lewandowski was billed to fly to England to have a look at their facilities. As it turns out, there was a serious Icelandic volcano that prevented air traffic for weeks. That ruined any chance of a move to Blackburn.

Lewandowski once said: “If I had met Blackburn I would have stayed there.”

Like Zaragoza, Blackburn are not playing top-flight football in England.
